My Story

Background

I graduated from Beloit College in 2017 with a BA in Philosophy. I decided that, since it would be risky to go into academia, I wanted to use my philosophical education to help others live meaningful lives according to their own values. Before graduate school, I primarily worked with teens and young adults with behavioral challenges, some associated with an autism or ADHD diagnosis. Through my work with children in particular, I learned that if genuine, long-term change is hard for them, then it must be even more challenging for adults. Our behaviors all serve a propose (for better or for worse), and it takes hard work, compassion, and acceptance to know the limits of what we can control, and how we can change our lives for the better.

In graduate school at Lehigh University, I found that my experience with neuodiverse clients allowed me to explore the intersection of neurodivergence, trauma, and sexuality. To explore these topics, I use a somatic, IFS-informed perspective to help clients gain clarity about the sources of the discomfort, and offer pragmatic solutions with the wisdom of cognitive therapies. Through my education, I also learned that their isn't one right answer for everyone. Wellness is each person looks different. It might be possible that my style as a therapist isn't the right one for you, and I value having an honest, big-picture discussion about what your specific needs are.

In addition to being a therapist, I am also an artist, and will not underestimate the arts' ability to inspire meaning in our lives, even when our relationship with it can be frustrating.

Sometimes the questions simply come down to: What kind of life do you want to live? What stands in your way?

You may not know these answers, and that's what I'm here for.
